The Kalashnikov Concern announced that it increased production of the SVD-S precision rifle by 13 times in 2025 compared to the previous year, to meet growing demand from Russian forces. The 7.62 mm model with a folding stock is in high demand by units operating in the special military operation zone (War in Ukraine, SMO).
According to the manufacturer, the SVD-S represents a modern adaptation of the classic Dragunov SVD, specially developed for airborne troops, marines and special operations units. The rifle is designed to neutralize enemy personnel and unarmored targets at ranges of up to 1000 meters, combining lightness, accuracy and reliability.
Alan Lushnikov, CEO of Kalashnikov Concern, said:
“The advantages of the 7.62 mm Dragunov precision rifle with folding stock have been proven by three decades of successful operation. Compact, semi-automatic and accurate, the SVD-S effectively helps our military carry out combat missions in the SMO zone.”
The rifle features a gas-operated automation system with a short-stroke gas piston, a gas regulator and a side rail for mounting optical or night sights. All wooden parts of the original model have been replaced by modern polymers, and the folding stock includes a fixed swivel cheek rest for greater comfort when using optics.
